The Aromanian family, Bellu, originated from Moscopole, Macedonia. They were part of freelance warriors and thieves from northern Greece who had a signifiat role during the Independence War of Romania.
The domain was comprised of several buildings erected sometime around the mid 1800s, by baron Alexandru Bellu (1850-1921), its architecture being inspired by old traditional Romanian architecture. During the 1940 earthquake, the main building suffered great damages, and eventually was demolished. Nowadays the still standing building is the secondary residence.
In 1926, the whole domain was donated by Alexandrina the widow of the baron to the Romanian Academy. In 1953, the domain became an Ethnographic Museum. Up until recently the domain was in the possession of the Local Museum of History and Archaeology Prahova. Then it was reclaimed by the Romanian Academy but still remains administrated the Local Museum.
